What is it?
Many producers, not only beginners, struggle a bit with the intricate details of an audio compressor. With all those variables like attack, release, the response curve etc. it is often difficult to see the forest for the trees, especially when all you want is a great sounding mix, not write your PhD thesis on the topic of audio compressors. It becomes even more complicated with multiband compression! Nevertheless, compressors, and especially multiband compressors, are an essential tool of every audio engineer. Here’s where a great software plugin like OverComp can be a very useful helper: it takes out some of the complexity of a traditional compressor while still offering enough control over the creative process that you can be sure to always end up with an excellent result.

Features
- 4-band audio compressor with cascaded Linkwitz-Riley filters for perfectly flat summation
- 4 independent sub-compressors in each band
- dynamic auto-detection of the optimum attack, release and knee width for the incoming signal
- two alternative internal algorithms for the parameter selection
- pre- and post compression gain adjustment for each band: control how much you drive your compressors, and equalize the outcome to taste
- solo and bypass option for each band
- double precision processing for compatible hosts/formats
- sidechain bus to drive the compression with an external signal
- two internal states for quick comparison between two settings
- global mix parameter for parallel compression techniques
As for the sound, it could be described as clean, but definitely not without character! But it’s always best to judge your own ears and listen to OberComp in action yourself. Fortunately there are…
